When do courses take place?

In the morning you study with your class, and in the afternoon you study on your own in the Multimedia Center or in the options courses (grammar, pronunciation, writing). There are also some conferences. As the 1st of August is a public holiday in Switzerland, you will have the day off. The class will be replaced another day.

Is the price of the learning material (brochures, ...) included in the course fee?


Can I obtain a grant in order to study at the Cours de vacances?

Ask your University if they have an agreement with the Cours de vacances.

Do I need any qualification in order to enrol in the Cours de vacances?

No, you have to be over 17 and wish to learn French.

What happens on the first day of class?

Meet us at 8.15 am in the Anthropole building of Lausanne University (the hall number will be on your Enrolment Confirmation letter). You will take a written assessment test (written comprehension and expression and oral comprehension) in the morning and an oral expression test in the afternoon. The tests will finish at 3.30 pm.

Can I take an examination and obtain a certificate at the Cours de vacances?

Yes, but only during the summer courses with the ECTS credits.

Is there an entrance test?

Yes, the assessment test which takes place on the first day of your course (writing in the morning, oral in the afternoon). This is only to help us place you in the class suited to your level. During the summer courses, the test doesn't concern the complete beginners.

Except for the "Introduction to academic writings" course.

Your entry in this class depends on the result of your assessment test on the first day of the course, you must at least be at level B1/B2 this means you must have acquired the skills of the B1 level and be on the path to acquiring the level B2 on the first day of the course.

if your result at the assessment test is too low, we will try to put you in a regular class but this will depend on availability.
if your result at the assessment test is too low and there are no spaces available in the regular classes you will not be able to attend the course and we will not refund your course.

Are all levels represented in each 3-week session?

During the winter, all levels are represented except the complete beginner (the person has no elementary notion and has never taken lessons). During the summer, all levels are represented and we also offer a 6-week course for the complete beginners.

How can I self-assess my French level in order to enrol in the appropriate course?

By refering to the criteria found on the following page: global scale of the European language portfolio. For a more precise appreciation, you can download a test application on the website Le Point du FLE.

Plan 40 to 60 minutes to do the test.

However, the classes are organized according to the assessment test (written and oral) that takes place on the first Monday of your course.
